Rebranded NDC vehicles not for us – NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), says the supposed Mahindra vehicles being re-branded into NDC colours do not belong to them.

Photos of about 50 Mahindra vehicles went viral on social media with the narration that it was procured for the NCCE but were being re-branded for NDC’s 2016 election campaign.

It turned out that the land on which the said vehicles were packed belonged to the National Security Adviser, Alhaji Baba Kamara, who reported the case to the Police arguing that the narrative was false and intended to portray the government in a bad light.

The Managing Director of Marbles and Granites Limited Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani, whose property the photos were allegedly taken from, was arrested by the BNI for questioning.

Dr. Ani’s arrest generated a public uproar in the country.

The NDC subsequently claimed ownership of the said vehicles but rejected assertions that they belonged to the NCCE.

A statement issued by the Communications and Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NCCE also stated that “the said vehicles alleged to have been re-branded to support NDC’s campaign ahead of the November elections do not belong to the NCCE.”

“The Commission has no connection to the said vehicles. We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling. We assure the good people of Ghana that the NCCE as a Constitutional Body remains independent in carrying out its mandate to the nation,” the statement added.
