Mahama can transform Ghana’s economy – Teye Nyaunu

Controversial former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for  the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu, a one-time avowed critic of the incumbent government, has suddenly renewed his confidence in the Mahama-led administration.

The man who fell out with the NDC to back the National Democratic Party (NDP), led by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, appears to have rekindled his love for the NDC, after losing his seat.

With a new appointment to lead the party’s election campaign for the November polls in the Eastern Region, Mr. Michael Teye Nyaunu says his decision to accept the new role is borne out of President Mahama’s prudent management of the economy.

In 2012, he contested the Lower Manya Constituency as an Independent Candidate after his fallout with the leadership of the NDC.

Subsequently, he wrote a letter to the party to pardon him so he returns to contest the seat.

According to him, the party’s leadership approached him to lead the campaign in the Eastern Region.

Speaking to Citi News, Michael Teye Nyaunu said Ghana stands a better chance of development with John Mahama at the helm of affairs.

“ I think Mahama has played his part and you will agree with me the economy has started picking up. If you give him a chance I think he can do something rather than bringing in a new person and maybe starting the whole thing again…”he argued.

According to him, his decision to abandon the NDP was borne out of the fact that inasmuch he supported Nana Konadu’s decision to contest against President Mills in the presidential primary in 2011, he didn’t support her decision entirely to leave the NDC.

“ Nana Konadu said that we should vote out Mahama government and I said that I don’t agree with her because even her own daughter Zanetor made a choice and I am a man so why can’t I make my choice and my own decision.”
