The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Saturday April 9, hold a parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency to elect a parliamentary nominee to represent the party in the November polls.
The primary in the area was delayed following confusion over the constituency’s voters’ register.
Currently, three persons are in the race namely; the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Roni Nicole and Teo Tetteh.
Speaking to Citi News, Ursula Owusu said she was hopeful of emerging victorious in the election and subsequently retain the seat in the November polls.
She told Citi News “I am relieved and very confident that victory is mine on Saturday. I am relieved because it is long and coming and I’m glad that we have a chance to finish preparatory work towards launching our campaign to retain the seat and maximize our votes for the flagbearer and hopefully win the general elections as well.”
“We are all determined that as one people focused with one agenda, we are ready to join forces to retain the seat with enhanced margin and work hard to do even better than we did the last time, in both the presidential and parliamentary election,” she added.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said she has over the years helped to transform the area as an MP. She said she had lobbied for a number of projects to be executed in her constituency.
Another aspirant in the race, Roni Nicole also speaking to Citi News said “I believe the Lord will certainly make me victorious in the election on Saturday.”
He explained that he was in the race because the NPP believes in democracy and it is his civic duty to ultimately represent the people of Ablekuma West in Parliament.
“Our party believes in democracy and I believe as a registered voter it’s my right to also want to contest to represent the people of Ablekuma West and our parliamentary candidate. I just believe that the time has come to have a new face for the people of Ablekuma West.”
