Don’t  declare uncertified results – EC warns media

The Electoral Commission has cautioned media houses in the country against declaring results that have not been certified during the November 7 general elections.

In an interview with Citi News, a Deputy Chair of the EC, Georginal Opoku Amankwaa, said the media must do this in order to avoid a situation where Ghanaians will doubt the final results that will be certified by the commission.

“It may be that you get access to some results and after calculating, it comes out that the Electoral Commission, which has access to all the results has something different results from yours; then people who might have heard you already would think that the figures might have been doctored by the Electoral Commission,” she said.

This year’s general elections comes off on November 7, and it is the expectation of Ghanaians that the whole process would be conducted without any violence.

In previous elections, some media houses were quick to announce what they called provisional results, even before the EC, announces the certified results.

In some cases, some political parties have also gone out of their way to declare themselves winners before the official results.

Such situations often heightens tension and has the propensity to destabilize the country’s peace.
