The Deputy General Secretary of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Annyidoho, has dismissed reports of a likely victory for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the November polls based on the latest outcome of a research released by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) released a report on Thursday predicting a likely win for the NPP, premised on what it calls untold economic hardship in the country.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sl0FBcoJf8nmcbZKYDuXNkprnjTOLlRX”]”There is little time for Mr. Mahama and the NDC to turn the economy around before the November 2016 Presidential and legislative elections. The Economist Intelligence Unit therefore expects Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP to be victorious,” the report stated.

But Koku Anyidoho told Citi News that EIU’s report rather speaks creditably of President Mahama’s management of the economy, and emboldens the NDC to go ahead to win the November polls.

“It’s interesting that the EIU report is saying that the NPP will win the election because of the challenged economy and in that same report predicts that in 2017 and 2020, there’s going to be a fair amount of commercial growth in the economy. And for me, that is very interesting and ironical.”

Though he conceded that the “economy is challenged, [and] nobody is running away from that fact,” Mr. Anyidoho explained that the EIU report implies that  “a lot of investment has gone into creating the fundamentals that will lead to that exponential growth.”

“In other words, President Mahama has not destroyed the economy, rather president Mills begun and president Mahama has continued and they have taken tough decisions that will be bring positive results post 2017 because NPP is not going to come with a magic wand in 2017.

“There must certainly be a basis for which there must be that exponential economic growth, 2017 into 2020. And that can only be because the fundamentals have been created by somebody and that somebody is President Mahama. So in effect, the EIU is telling us that the NDC should be energized and go to the grounds and really tell our story for Ghanaians to know and understand that it’s important for us to continue building on the provisions that we’ve put in place,” he added.
