A former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Emmanuel Asiedu Mantey says he finds no fault with the early retirement of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah.

The Governor announced on Tuesday that he will step down today, five clear months before his tenure ends.
He has been criticized for overseeing the continuous depreciation of the cedi and his failure to check the mushrooming of dubious micro finance companies.
Some industry players have also jumped to his defense and said he dispatched his duties creditably.
His early exit however, has caused political watchers to put a spin on the decision with some claiming he was forced out.
But Dr. Emmanuel Asiedu Mantey tells Citi Business News he thinks Dr. Wampah took the right decision.
“Honestly I do not see anything peculiar because what he said was that he has accumulated leave so he decides to take the leave prior to retirement. There is nothing unusual about that, he could have waited till August and decided to go on retirement in which case the bank will pay him money for the leave that he didn’t take or he has a choice to take the leave prior to retirement.” The Former Deputy Governor stated.
Dr. Wampah was also reported to have indicated that his decision was to allow his successor ample time to acquaint himself with affairs before the general elections. But Dr. Mantey intimated he could not fathom Dr. Wampah’s decision to connect his resignation to the upcoming general elections.
“I do not know why he is linking his retirement to an election, that i don’t understand.” Dr. Mantey said.
