The leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region, has announced an award package for polling stations that will record large winning margins for the party in the upcoming general elections in November.

The intended prizes are a 42 inch flat screen television and a motor bike each a day after the results are declared.

According to the Chairman, the move is part of their plans to ensure victory for their presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.

It is also a strategy to win at least five out of the eleven parliamentary seats in the region.

The NPP could not win a single seat in the Upper West Region during the last parliamentary elections even though Nana Addo managed to secure 29. 26 % of the presidential votes cast.

Chairman Short said, “we are prepared to reverse this unfortunate trend that we experienced in the last elections,” adding, “our performance in the last elections is a big disgrace to us at the regional level. Any time Upper West Region is mentioned at the national level, we are forced to bow down our heads in shame.”

So far, the party has inaugurated campaign teams in eight constituencies including Lawra, Daffiama-Busie-Issah, Nadowli-Kaleo, Nandom, Sissala East, Wa Central, Wa East and Sissala West.

The chairman said the remaining three constituencies will have their campaign teams inaugurated before the end of March.

Each constituency’s campaign team consist of 21 people including 15 constituency executives, the Parliamentary candidate and five prominent appointees by the constituency Executive Committee.

The teams are to develop and manage campaign strategies in the various districts up to the November 7 polls.

Tanko Dauda Daniel, Upper West Regional Treasurer of the NPP, assured that funds would be made available for the proper functioning of the campaign teams.

He said winning the 2016 elections was crucial for the NPP because the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, has failed in alleviating the suffering of the ordinary Ghanaian.
