The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has rejected an appeal from AshantiGold Football Club seeking to stop the case brought by Asante Kotoko over the Miners’ failure to play an MTN FA Cup quarter final at the Accra Sports Stadium on the 13th of April, 2014.

Kotoko had sent the case to the Disciplinary Committee for redress and it was seeking to be declared winners of the match and granted passage to the semi-finals of the competition.

However, AshantiGold stated that they did not have the requisite funds to travel to Accra for the match and therefore filed an appeal to counter Kotoko’s case but after a hearing of the Disciplinary Committee on Thursday, the Miners’ appeal was dismissed but no costs were awarded to Kotoko.

The Committee, which had its Vice-Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Effah Annan, sitting as the presiding member, suggested to the GFA and the competition organisers to “ …, in the event of a similar situation arising in the future, engage the away team, particularly with regard to financial outlays and a logistical concerns of the away team to build consensus before deciding on a new venue for the match.”

The ruling means that the second semi-final of the MTN FA Cup is set to go ahead between Asante Kotoko and King Faisal on the 25th of May at the Baba Yara Stadium with the winner facing Inter Allies in the final scheduled for the 8th of June at the Accra Sports Stadium.
