Deputy Northern Regional Minister A.B.A Fuseini, has called on indigenes of the Northern Region to help maintain peace in the area to attract the necessary development.
A.B.A Fusheini was speaking at a ceremony that was held to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the Kokomba Youth Association (KOYA) at Saboba in the Northern Region.
[contextly_sidebar id=”mRsfdxSP1NsxC82WZSOdkea2dG1YKEHD”]“Without peace, we must forget about development. Development and peace go together. More instability and conflict will throw development out. Wherever in the world that there is instability, you don’t see development,” he said.
Mr. Fusheini also pointed out to the people that the Northern Region has the highest number of curfews in the country hence the need for them to commit to peace.
“Unfortunately, we have not had much peace in the northern region. There are five curfews in Ghana, four of those are in the northern region. This region needs peace more than any other region because the people in the region are classified as some of the impoverished in the country.”
Conflicts in Northern Region
Over the years, the Northern region has had some of the most volatile areas in the country.
The Bimbilla Township, for instance is currently under a dawn to dusk curfew following conflicts in the area.
Some other volatile areas in the Northern Region are Bunkprugu and Yendi.
Conflicts in these areas have resulted in the deaths of thousands, while a lot of property have also been lost.
