A scholarship scheme to support academically brilliant children from poor homes across the three Northern Regions, has been launched in Tamale.

The first batch of 16 beneficiaries – all of them girls, are being assisted financially to study agricultural science at the Business College International (BCI), a private business senior high school (SHS).

The scheme is the BCI’s contribution towards providing opportunity for the poor and orphans, to access SHS education.

Mr. Ibrahim Shamsudeen Tamaiko, the Director, noted that there were many academically good students in the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions, who were being forced out of school because of poverty.

This is what the scheme, established in honour of the College’s Founder, Hajia Salamatu Tamaiko Ibrahim, seeks to help prevent.

He announced that 20 more students – 15 girls and five boys, would be selected for support in the next academic year.

The scheme would run for10 years and targeted to cover 150 girls.

Mr. Taimako encouraged the beneficiary students to work hard on their books to live their dream.

The Principal, Mr. Bawa Omar, said the school would continue to offer quality education to students and applauded the management of Prudential Bank for helping to improve its infrastructure.

Hajia Ibrahim said it was already supporting 46 students, who lost their parents after gaining admission into the school.
