Minority Leader in Parlaiment, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has told Citi News, the resumption of business in Parliament, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, has been postponed to June 3 due to financial difficulties.

Parliament rose on March 28, 2014 and was expected to begin work this week.

The Minority Leader has stated that business in the House is expected to suffer yet another significant setback, as members would have to wait a little longer than expected, before reconvening.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Mensah Bonsu said the delay will affect the business of the House.

He mentioned that the reconvening of Parliament is expected to last for a period of six weeks “and it will give us the time to look at referrals to us” but he added that the delay will affect the pace of work for MPs when they finally resume business.

This, the Suame MP said will result in the absence of “diligent work on referrals.”

According to him, the situation poses a risk to effective scrutiny of documents and agreements “and if you skip anything, it will have a detrimental effect on our governance and so we need to do what is right.”
