Apple has unveiled a new smaller, low-cost iPhone.
The 4-inch iPhone SE replaces its previous iPhone 5S at the low-price end of its range, while offering some of the newer specifications of its top model, the iPhone 6S, such as the A9 processor and support for 4K video.
Compared to the iPhone 5S, it also offers improved battery life, faster LTE and Wi-Fi and a better camera of 12 megapixels.
The new smartphone will be available in a choice of four metallic finishes, starting at USD 399 for the 16 GB model or USD 17 per month on a 24-month contract from Apple stores in the US.
A 64 GB model will also be available, for USD 499.
The initial launch markets are Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US; around 40 more countries will follow in early April.
In addition, Apple introduced a smaller version of the iPad Pro, with a 9.7-inch display.
Compared to the similar-sized iPad Air, it offers a better screen, four speakers, an improved camera, the faster A9X processor and the optional accessories of the original iPad Pro, such as a detachable keyboard and stylus.
The smaller iPad Pro starts at USD 599 for the 32 GB version with Wi-Fi or USD 729 with an embedded Sim for LTE, compared to the reduced price of USD 399 for the iPad Air 2.
Shipping from 31 March, the new iPad Pro also will be available with 128 GB memory for USD 749 or 256 GB for USD 899.
While Apple did not announce a new version of the Apple Watch, it has cut the starting price.
It will retail now from USD 299, down from USD 349 previously.
Watch bands in new colours and materials will also be available.
The company also announced updates to its software platforms for developers making health apps.
