Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has asked players of the Black Stars to give off their best as they prepare to face Mozambique in the 2017 AFCON to be played in Accra on Thursday.

The match will be the first assignment for the Black Stars this year and the team began getting ready for the encounter with a training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

The match is the third to be played in Group H which Ghana tops by 6 points after the first two rounds.

The Minister addressed the players who were at the session.

“All I want to say is that your efforts in the past are appreciated by Ghanaians but there is a lot more ahead of us.”

“You have a reputation to guard as the foremost nation when it comes to football in Africa.”

“What is important for me is to see you win against Mozambique on Thursday. It is the first Black Stars match I will be witnessing as the Sports Minister.”

He added: “Assistant coach Maxwell Konadu and team manager Sabahn Quaye will tell you that I always look for victory when it comes to football.”

“That is what I ask of you. I need you to win the home and away legs against Mozambique. As a Ministry, we will do what we can to make sure you achieve that as a country.”

The Black Stars will have another training session on Tuesday in the afternoon.

14 players namely captain Asamoah Gyan, Abdul Majid Waris, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Samuel Tetteh, Mubarak Wakaso, Baba Rahman, Adam Kwarasey, Richard Ofori, Edwin Gyimah, Frank Acheampong, Christian Atsu and Rabiu Mohammed were present at the training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.
