Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vaderpuye, has revealed that plans are in place to construct Ghana’s first ever multi-discipline sports complex.

The structure is expected to provide the perfect hub for Ghana to develop athletes in  lesser funded sports ahead of future competitions while providing a space for recreational activities.

The Minister believes that Ghana should take a cue from Congo Brazzaville who recently unveiled a similar edifice which hosted the 2015 All African Games.

“I am looking at the long term vision of us having the first sports auditorium that will have swimming, weightlifting and a gymnastics arena.”

“If Congo has done it we should be able to do it.” Just before I arrived here this morning I held a meeting with the Chinese ambassador and I am exploring the possibility of getting a Chinese grant to build our Sports Dome.

“A number of corporate bodies have also been engaged to ensure that this dream of owning an indoor arena becomes a reality,” he told a gathering of Sports journalists.

If the plans come to fruition it will be the second sports project the Chinese government has funded in the last decade.

Chinese contractors IPPR International Engineering Corporation according to reports have handed  over the Cape Coast stadium to the National Sports Authority.
