Anas’ exposé:  19 judicial service staff sacked

Following their roles in the payment of bribes to judges in Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ video that exposed widespread corruption in the judiciary, the Judicial Council has dismissed 19 judicial service workers who were indicted in the scandal.

The affected workers included court registrars, interpreters and a watchman, who are said to have received bribes in various sums to help influence judgments.

According to the statement, the workers were “dismissed for consciously and willingly acting as conduits between representatives of Tigereyepi and the judges, and for illegally demanding and receiving various sums of monies for the judges and themselves.”

Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, captured some 34 judges and scores of judicial service workers on video allegedly taking bribes to influence judgments.

The Chief Justice subsequently formed various committees to investigate the matter to enable her make a determination. About 23 of the judges have so far been dismissed.

Below is the full list of the sacked judicial service workers:

Dismissal

  2. Mr. Daniel Oppong, Circuit Court Registrar, Offinso
  3. Mr. Alexander Atta, Assistant Court Registrar, Circuit Court, Cape Coast
  4. Mr. John Adonu, Interpreter GD I, Circuit Court, Tema
  5. Mr. Mensah Benneh, Assistant Registrar, District Court, Ejisu
  6. Mr. Frank Joe Duah, District Court Registrar, Circuit Court, Bibiani
  7. Mr. Daniel Tordzro, Circuit Court Registrar, Circuit Court, Tema.
  8. Mr. Frank Joe Dua, Senior Interpreter, Circuit Court, Aflao
  9. Mr. Kwaku Sarpong, Day Watchman, Circuit Court, Juabeng
  10. Mr. Frank Amedume, Senior Interpreter, Circuit Court, Aflao

Removal from Office

The following staff have been removed from office for holding ex-parte discussions with representatives of tigereyepi and facilitating meetings between the said representatives and the judges:

  1. Ms. Juliana Adjei, Messenger, Circuit Court, Offinso
  2. Ms. Esther Boatemaa, Principal Court Recorder, Law Court Complex, Accra
  3. Mr. Ezekiel Ayebo, Circuit Court Registrar, District Court, Teshie-Nungua
  4. Ms. Cynthia Quaye, District Court Registrar, District Court, Kasoa
  5. Mr. Thomas Odei Boafo, Principal Interpreter, District Court, Ashaiman
  6. Mr. Matthew Atuguba, Senior Usher, High Court, Accra
  7. Mr. Gordon Amankona, High Court Registrar, District Court, Kasoa
  8. Mr. Isaac Gyabaah, Senior High Court Registrar, Circuit Court, Juabeng
  9. Mr. Abdullah Yahaya Yeddor, High Court Registrar, Circuit Court, Offinso-Ashanti RegionExoneration and Restoration to their previous positions

    The following staff against whom the allegations could not be proved have been exonerated and restored to their previous positions.

    1. Michael Turkson, a District Court Registrar, District Court, Somanya
    2. Ms. Irene Minta-Jacobs, District Court Registrar, Archives Unit, Accra
    3. Mr. Evans Abban, Assistant Registrar, Circuit Court, Nsawam
