The Institute of Chartered Accountants has organised its first ever induction ceremony for 248 new members of the Institute.
The two-day programme is designed to initiate the members into the accountancy profession, after passing the institute’s professional examinations.
The members were taken through the principles of good ethical behaviors, stress management and were also educated on how to invest in professional excellence.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Accra, the President of the Institute, Professor Kwame Bosiako Omane-Antwi, tasked members of the institute to be professional and refrain from engaging in any form of malfeasance.
He said a committee had been established to ensure that its members strictly adhere to the Institute’s code of ethics.
“Members of ICAG are regulated by five fundamental principles of IFAC code of Ethics including integrity, objectivity, professional competence and behaviour as well as confidentiality”. Therefore any member who engages in financial malfeasance is disciplined by the professional standard and Ethics Committee of Council”, he said.
High Court Judge, Her Ladyship Justice Sylvia Botchwey who spoke on behalf of Chief J ustice Georgina Wood also charged the inductees to be circumspect in the discharge of their duties.
She further advised them to refrain from engaging in corrupt practices that seek to mar their reputation.
“Do not be caught up in frenzy of getting money quickly. Remember that a journey of thousand miles begins with one step. Work hard and do not be caught up with the attitude of pilfering or borrowing money from state coffers…”
