The Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP John Kudalor, is on a tour of Northern Ghana persuading chiefs to support law enforcement agencies to ensure peaceful elections on November 7.
As his major outreach programme after his confirmation, John Kudalor has so far visited the Upper East and Northern Regions.
In the Northern Region, the IGP paid courtesy calls on the Gukpegu-Naa, Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai and the Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan.
As his widow’s mite, John Kudalor contributed GHc1, 000.00 to the Dakpema Education Endowment Fund.
He impressed upon traditional rulers in the country to promote political tolerance in their communities.
The IGP said law enforcement agencies would continue to partner with traditional rulers to intensify national cohesion. He said special attention would be paid to the November 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections to avoid chaos.
Gukpegu-Naa Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai on behalf of the Regent of Dagbon, promised the IGP that traditional rulers in the region would continue to liaise with the law enforcement agencies for nation building.
The Gukpegu-Naa commended the IGP for his elevation and urged him to live beyond reproach.
Gukpegu-Naa Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai implored residents of Tamale to be law abiding. Later at a durbar, COP John Kudalor asked his men to be professional in discharging their duties.
He cautioned them against engaging in partisan political activities and warned that any officer found in such act would be sanctioned. The Northern Regional Minister, Abdallah Abubakari, decried the several chieftaincy, land and other related conflicts in the Northern Region.
He thus urged the IGP to augment security visibility in the identified troubled communities in the region.
“The region has for some time now earned a very bad name due to numerous chieftaincy conflicts and I hope that the police will continue to provide adequate security to maintain law and order in spite of being over stretched.”
