IGP assesses police readiness in U/East ahead of Nov. polls

The Inspector General of Police(IGP), John Kudalor, has visited the Upper East Regional Police command to assess the preparedness of the command ahead of the November 7 general elections.

Mr. Kudalor after inspecting the Regional Police command’s logistics and personnel, disclosed that the exercise forms part of the Police administration’s preparation towards the polls.

He called on the Regional Police command to replicate the National Police “Dialogue Series” ongoing with political parties and various key stakeholders in the region, and institute proactive measures to prevent any recurrence of election violence in the area ahead of the elections.

“The Regional Police command should engage the youth, traditional leaders, opinion leaders and leaders of political parties in the region and collaborate with the media to institute proactive measures to ensure a violence-free election,” Mr. Kudalor added.

He cautioned police personnel to discharge their duties professionally during this electioneering year and reiterated that personnel who will breach the professional ethics of the service will be punished severely.

On his part, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Yao Afeku stated that, in their quest to ensure a peaceful election, seventy personnel from the Bolgatanga division, have already undergone training in the use of  riot control equipment and other crime combat techniques.

This he said will be replicated in all districts and municipal police commands to ensure professional policing ahead of the elections.

kudalor visits upper east police command (3)DCOP Afeku further pledged that his men will be fair and resolute in maintaining high standards of professionalism in order to ensure a violent free election in the region.

He said through collaborative efforts with the Road Safety Commission, the region has recorded fewer road accidents.

Mr. Kudalor was accompanied by the Director-General of Services, Mr.James Oppong-Boanuh, Director-General of Operations, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director of Communications, Mr. Amo Ayisi, Director of Public Affairs, Mr.Cephas Arthur among others.
