President John Dramani Mahama has challenged the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo to a debate.

According to him, Nana Addo has made some contentious statements in recent times and thus he is ready to debate the NPP’s presidential candidate any day.

“I’m willing to debate Nana Akufo-Addo any day even if you call him today, I will put it here and start debating the issues. So I don’t have a problem with debating Nana Addo,” he said in an interview on TV3.

The NPP’s flagbearer and his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have consistently rubbished achievements of President Mahama and the NDC government.

Nana Addo recently held what he described as the Real State of the Nations Address to counter what was delivered by President Mahama.

Nana Addo had said president Mahama is out of touch with the citizenry and the state of affairs hence his decision to paint a perfect picture of the nation during his version of State of the Nation Address.

President Mahama during the interview said although it is the political parties that determine which debate they would partake in, he said “I’m willing even this afternoon if Nana presented himself, I will take him on, on all those contentious statements he has made.”

“Essentially our parties are involved in agreeing on the format of the debate and who organizes it an all that and so it’s not for me to say. I’m sure the NDC party at the appropriate time, if they are invited to a debate, would have to take a decision on whether they feel comfortable with whoever is organizing the debate.”
