One of Ghana’s most hardworking police commanders, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni has died.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander is reported to have died this morning [Monday] at the Police Hospital.
He was transferred to the Eastern Region in December 2015 from the Greater Accra Region, and was instrumental in the conversion of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) into a department where he served as Director.
[contextly_sidebar id=”UEvwqznGQKFPz6BhbnrRY7Y0KOXwSJcn”]He has been at the forefront of road traffic management in the country over the years.
The late Police Commander is noted for his frankness in presenting his point of view on issues bothering the nation.
DCOP Awuni in 2012 caused the arrest of the former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey, for interfering in an ongoing biometric registration exercise in his constituency.
He had also recently directed security personnel in the Eastern Region to shoot and kill what he calls “stubborn cows” belonging to Fulani herdsmen in the region.
“There are occasions when cows are directed towards security personnel when they are trying to enforce law and order as far as the Fulani herdsmen are concerned and my instruction is that gun down the cows who will be directed at you. You need to live to be able to enforce law and order but don’t just go there and start killing animals. Until your lives are put in danger be very professional. We want to make sure that the people who live in these areas live their lives in peace,” he added.
