The Ashanti Regional Security Council, (REGSEC), has reviewed the curfew imposed on the Tafo community at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

A statement from the Interior Ministry indicated that the curfew will now start from 8 pm to 4 am.

A conflict over a parcel of cemetery land in February this year, led to clashes between some Muslim youth and the the youth of the area backed by the Tafo traditional council. The incident led to the death of one Muslim youth.

The statement further banned residents of Tafo from carrying arms, ammunition or any other offensive weapon.

It said any person found carrying arms will be “arrested or prosecuted.”

It is unclear yet why the curfew has been reviewed contrary to an earlier intent to lift it completely.

The Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon, had argued that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), is convinced the security situation in the area has improved.
