Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Volta Regional Minister, on Thursday commissioned a dialysis unit for the Volta Regional Hospital.
The commissioning coincided with the celebration of the World Kidney Day and provides the hospital the capacity to manage and treat kidney failure and other kidney related ailments.
The four NIPRO Surdial 55+dialysis machines worth 50,000 dollars were donated to the hospital by D.Med Healthcare AG Limited, following appeals by the Asogli Queenmothers’ Association.
The Ghana Oil Company Limited, (GOIL) also provided a water treatment machine at a cost of GHc 28,000.00 for the facility.
Dr Joseph Nuertey, the Volta Regional Director of Health Services, said lack of a dialysis unit at the hospital caused the death of many people and was happy the with the arrival of the machine.
He asked the public to show great compassion to people living with kidney related ailments, saying, “They need good care and love.”
Dr John Tampuori, the Medical Director, Volta Regional Hospital, revealed to the media that the hospital used to refer about nine patients every month to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for kidney related ailments.
He added that this new dialysis unit would help improve healthcare delivery in the region.
