The Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, has cautioned political parties against forming vigilante groups ahead of the November polls.
According to him, the Police will act professionally before, during and after the November general elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bFdQX2Eo2l9a1geoByEaYORZC3gBEMZy”]IGP Kudalor, who was addressing the media at a dialogue with youth groups of political parties in Accra, said the service will provide maximum security at all times of the elections.
“Our personnel have been warned of the possible negative implication of taking a partisan position in the discharge of their duties” hence will not hesitate to take action against violent groups belonging to the political parties because professionalism is our watchword.”
“As a result, I will entreat you to avoid joining or making use of vigilante groups since these groups are illegal and alien to our laws. It’s therefore a crime to join or form such groups as the Police administration is putting adequate measures to ensure that law and order before, during and after the election are ensured,” he added.
The IGP also said the service is putting in place other mechanisms to protect electoral materials including the ballot boxes as well as ensuring “the safety of political party representatives at polling stations.”
He advised the political parties to eschew violence and instead sell their messages and candidates to the electorate “and allow them to cast their votes in peace.”
