The Chief Executive Officer of the Women’s World Banking Ghana, Charlotte Lily Baidoo has urged young ladies to be determined in their quest to become successful career women.

According to her, being able to surmount the challenges that come along with being a woman in a male dominated business world will largely depend on a lady’s ability to work hard at attaining it.

Charlotte Baidoo was speaking on a special edition of Citi Fm’s Business Today which focused on successful business women in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day.

“If the challenges are many for you, what you have to do is to find alternatives and move on, as a young lady obviously, I went through these challenges, but I can say that all the work that I have done, I had seen them in the newspapers, she said.

“You do not need to know anybody, since I got here without knowing anybody, I don’t see why I should give in to any male partner or boss to get anything, I determined to work hard and allow my work speak for me, Charlotte Lily Baidoo added.

Chief Executive Officer of technology firm, Edel Technologies, Ethel Cofie attributed women’s inability to rise to the top to society’s orientation which has made women subservient to their male counterparts.

“You will have to work harder to get women get these opportunities… there is a feeling of maybe too much, and I shouldn’t be seen pushing too much, we are taught that just be good enough or be perfect as a result we don’t go after the opportunities that will take us to the next level.”

Ethel further bemoaned the low patronage of local technologies which she cited as a challenge to the growth of the technology business.

“The big players in the market are hesitant to use local technology while SMEs adopt local technology; this is partly due to past experiences that they are not happy about and the use of one man teams to build softwares for your companies.”

A third panelist, Mabel Simpson, the CEO of accessories firm, Msimps, advised on the need to identify a partner who shares in the dream of the entrepreneur’s business ideas. According to her, a partner who does not believe in a woman’s ideas will ultimately collapse the business idea and the success of the lady.

“You all need to understand where you are going, once you know that then you understand you need to support each other. If you do not get someone who understands your business and entrepreneurship, it is not going to work,” she noted.

Meanwhile all three ladies advised on the need for successful women to mentor budding ones to enable them achieve their dreams.
