The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Ishmael Ashitey, has told Citi News the party’s leadership will convince Nii Noi Nortey to rescind his decision to contest the November election as an independent candidate.

[contextly_sidebar id=”5prnNx6tgqTWu7c5YQixmwMyQ2RjnJ63″]Nii Noi finally declared his intention to contest for the parliamentary bid of the Klottey Korle constituency in the general election independently, at a news conference held in Accra on Wednesday.

He took the decision after losing a re-run of the constituency’s primary which saw his contender, Philip Addison beat him by a slim margin.

Speaking to Citi News, Ismael Ashietey said party executives will hold discussions with Nii Noi Nortey to urge him to reconsider his decision.

“There are senior members of the party and I think we will reach out to him and talk to him. I’ve known Nii Noi for a very long time and he is a die-hard NPP person and I don’t believe he is saying that thing deeply from his heart. Maybe the problem that was associated with the whole process is what is making him say those things so we will talk to him.”

“I personally will talk to him. We have been able to manage the party from its onset up till this time and I don’t think we lack that skill that he is talking of. There was communication problem from the onset and I think that culminated into what has happened. I will talk to him and I believe that we should be able to reach something good for himself and the party.”

But responding to the Constituency Chairman, Nii Nortey said he took the decision in a bid to rather mobilize party members for victory in 2016.

“…The party should be a political party, mobilize its members and win elections. Nii Nortey is mobilizing Klottey Korle to win the parliamentary bid. When it comes to party issues let the people decide on their own.”
