Ashantehene  Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his readiness to intervene in the impasse between  nomadic Fulani herdsmen and residents of Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, it will be unfortunate for him to sit unconcerned as the traditional overlord of the Ashanti Region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”CrwQOb7nRK5ka7uuLtS4ZB2ZPKmHIgXo”]In recent times, the Fulanis have been in the news for the very wrong reasons.

In Agogo for instance, they have clashed with indigenes often resulting in deaths and destruction of farmlands.

The residents of Agogo have accused the Fulanis of destroying their crops and killing their relatives and have demanded their evacuation from the area.

Speaking in Kumasi after the residents of Agogo petitioned him, the Ashantehene admonished the people in Agogo and other troubled areas including Tafo, to exercise restraint while steps are taken to address their concerns.

“When I arrived at the airport, I saw scores of people holding placards and shouting, Nana they are killing us, Agogo, Tafo. I plead with you all, exercise restraint, I just arrived, I am yet to receive full briefing on happenings during my absence; but that notwithstanding, I want all my children, grandchildren to understand that I will not sit unconcerned for my people to be driven away from their own lands in Agogo.”

He said, “I will not sit unconcerned for my people to be killed in Tafo. But there is a need for patience in all of these. As I sit here, no government can dictate to me and no government has ever tried to do that. I rather point out to them where they are going wrong so they can make amends and improve the country in the process. I want all of you to know that, as Asantehene, my eyes and ears are always on the ground. I have told you that even when a pin drops at Kejetia I hear of it.”
