Workers of the Information Services Department (ISD), an arm of the Communications Ministry, are angry with the Department’s acting Director for apologizing for errors that were found in the brochure for Ghana’s 59th Independence Anniversary Parade, since according to them, they were not printed by the department.
The ISD in a statement on Monday apologized to President John Dramani Mahama and Ghanaians for the obvious errors in the brochures that were printed for the historic national event.
[contextly_sidebar id=”OcBDteFTCd1nyy30FSAQJfepi5Y2rZjn”]The apology came after Ghanaians complained that the brochure which contained several grammatical and typographical errors were embarrassing considering that the event was also patronized by foreigners.
On the brochure, Uhuru Kenyatta was referred to as the President of Ghana among other errors. But workers say they did not print the brochures and that it was out of place for their head to claim responsibility for it with a public apology.
One of the workers, who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said: “…We heard in the news that the ISD had manufactured or produced the brochure that was used at the independence square but we have no idea about it. We don’t know anything about it. We use to do exhibition, decoration and all that; but I can tell you for a fact that we don’t do that anymore.”
She explained that the acting Director probably decided to take responsibility for the development because he wanted to cover up for government.
“This is a public organisation and what I know is that for you to become an acting Director, you need to rise through the ranks, you have to be a civil servant but he is not a civil servant. He was brought from Flagstaff House and so if something like this happens, he would want to cover up for government so maybe that’s why he did that.”
She further alleged that a private company , which she will not name, was contracted on the blindside of the Department to print the brochures.
“It’s somebody who is doing it and so if you come out to apologise it means that yes we did it so we accept responsibility but we didn’t do it.”
