The Electoral Commission has confirmed that Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency, is not a registered voter according to their records.
The EC made this known in a letter written by Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, to a private legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory, giving him instructions to represent them in court, in a suit filed against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and the EC, by incumbent NDC MP for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashietey.

Portions of the letter read ‘We write to instruct you to conduct the above suit on our behalf. We have received letters from the lawyers of the plaintiff [Nii Armah Ashittey], in the matter requesting information on the status of Dr Ezanetor Agyeman Rawlings as a registered voter as well as a subpoena …”
“Our records confirm that she is not on the commission’s register as a registered voter. Please take note and take appropriate steps to strike out the suit against the commission because it appears clearly from the processes served on the commission, that the only reason the commission has been made party to the suit, is because the plaintiff desires information on the status of Dr. Ezanetor Agyeman Rawlings as a registered voter, which by virtue of the subpoena, would have been bound to disclose to the court any.”
The latest information comes on the heels of a suit filed by the incumbent NDC MP, Nii Armah Ashitey and one Nii John Coleman (who also lost in the November primary) praying the court to prevent Dr. Rawlings from holding herself out as parliamentary candidate-elect for the constituency on the ticket of the NDC.
In the suit, the two say Zanetor Rawlings’ election was unlawful since she was not a registered voter, and wants the court to annul the November 21, 2015 primary of the NDC in the constituency.
They joined the NDC and the Electoral Commission (EC) to the suit, as first and third respondents respectively, with Dr. Rawlings being the second.
Court order
The EC’s confirmation comes barely a month after a court ordered lawyers of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, to open her defense in the suit in which her eligibility is being challenged.
The turn of events may scuttle the parliamentary ambitions of the young politician, who might perhaps want to tow the line of her father, Jerry John Rawlings, former President and Founder of the NDC.
