A group calling itself, the Agogo Youth Association (AYAS), has petitioned the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to help find a lasting solution to the long-standing conflict between Fulani nomads and residents of Agogo.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ytsTjtWANaQPTkf1jTCfnXusjZZJcKbS”]The Ashanti Regional Security Council says it has started expelling the violent nomads together with their cattle from the area, to forestall further violence, but there is still uneasy calm there after the herdsmen reportedly killed two people.
In presenting their petition to the Asantehene, they met him at the Airport on his return from a trip outside the country.

Speaking to Citi News, Chairman of the Agogo Youth Association, Emmanuel Amakye Buabeng said they petitioned the Asantehene because they have lost confidence in the Regional Security Council’s ability to tackle the matter head-on.
We don’t trust the security personnel
He said the presence of security personnel in the area “has become like an annual ritual…because they actually come and go.”
“We are saying that by the end of this year, we don’t want the Fulanis in our land and that is why we have petitioned Otumfuo to intervene. We don’t trust the security personnel; anytime they come around, they tell us they are coming to evict them [Fulanis] fully. There was a time they gave the Fulanis a deadline but during evacuation, they told us that they are going and they will come back but they [security personnel] never returned,” he added.
Political activities in Agogo banned
The angry residents of Agogo have accused the Fulanis of destroying their crops and killing their relatives who complain.
The youth have subsequently banned all political activities in the area until the Fulani herdsmen are driven away from the town.
The youth claimed that they took the decision after several efforts to have the Fulani issue addressed proved futile.
