Citi News has gathered that a basic but critical equipment needed for health delivery, the main oxygen gas plant at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, is not functioning.

The plant has not been working for the past two weeks, forcing the hospital to spend huge sums of money to buy oxygen from a private source.

Oxygen plants are industrial systems designed to generate oxygen. They typically use air as a feedstock and separate it from other components of air.

The machines according to sources, broke down due to lack of maintenance.

Citi News’ Franklin Badu Junior who visited the hospital to ascertain the situation,  stated that “only the theater at the maternity block has a functioning gas plant which is breaking down due to lack of maintenance.

He also reported that the theatre at the Gynaecology Department has been shutdown since December last year.
