Bill Cosby’s next court appearance in his criminal case was indefinitely postponed so a Pennsylvania appeals court can consider whether to dismiss the case.
Cosby was due for a preliminary hearing in Montgomery County on March 8 to determine whether probable cause exists to move forward with the sex assault case.
Lawyers for the comedian had asked a court to dismiss the case and prosecutors have, in turn, asked to shut down his appeal.
Prosecutors have not yet commented on the postponement.
Cosby, 78, was charged last December with aggravated indecent assault, stemming from an alleged 2004 incident involving former Temple University employee Andrea Constand.
Constand claimed in 2005 that Cosby had drugged and assaulted her the year before, and eventually, they settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money.
Last month, Cosby sued Constand for breach of contract and is seeking the return of the money he paid her.
Since 2014, dozens of women have accused the comedian of sexual assault and of drugging them. He is currently involved in a civil lawsuit with seven of those women.
Cosby has denied all allegations made against him. Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressley, previously told ABC News, “Make no mistake, we intend to mount a vigorous defense against this unjustified charge and we expect that Mr. Cosby will be exonerated by a court of law.”
If convicted of sexual assault, Cosby faces 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.
