The Minority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has bemoaned the poor state of Ghana’s economy calling it wretched and deplorable, highlighting the high cost of doing business and dwindling economic competitiveness.

“A nation in catharsis, a nation whose economic fundamentals are in a wretched state, a nation with a apocalyptic debt overhang, a nation living deplorable conditions… Industry, especially manufacturing industry is teetering.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”FR8FuDS1I9h6cPaKuWNNOJWtuIpOc5ka”]Speaking ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “real” State of the Nation Address by the Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Bonsu-Mensah said, “today’s exposition is meant to reform and provide a glimpse into what a credible alternative government intends to do if given the opportunity.”

He also stressed that their exercise was not fueled by pettiness but simply a prove of their interest in the welfare of Ghanaians.

“This exercise is not born out of pettiness of politics or the small mindedness of doomsayers or a wish of any failure of action or policy intended to lift Ghana up.”

He reiterated his party’s commitment to Ghana saying,”We in the New Patriotic Party feel a sense of responsibility to our nation where we are able to shed light where there is darkness, in order to ensure that the resources that God has blessed the black star of Africa are enjoyed by all her citizens and not just a few.”

The NPP’s address is in response to  President Mahama’s State of the nation address delivered last Thursday, which the party described as disappointing and filled with untruths.
