Louis van Gaal caused a social media storm with his touchline antics during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

The former Netherlands manager theatrically dived to the ground to remonstrate with fourth official Mike Dean over an incident involving Alexis Sanchez, in what will go down in history as one of the most entertaining touchline moments in the Premier League.

While the moment has been enjoyed by many, speaking after the victory, Van Gaal confessed that his emotions were running too high, of which he has apologised to the officials for.

“Normally I don’t do that,” said the Dutchman

“Normally I want to do it, maybe, in a final. I have done that in the final in 1995, but not in a regular competition.

“My emotions were too high. I have apologised to the referee, the linesman and also the fourth referee.

“I’m not doing that to provoke; I’m doing that because I’m emotional.”
