The National Democratic Party (NDP) says President John Dramani Mahama’s presentation of the State of the Nation address did not reflect the true situation on the ground.

The President in his address to Parliament on Thursday  touched on a number of sectors  and enumerated the achievements made by his government.

Among other things, the President focused on major achievements made by his government in the health sector, education and energy.

He said his administration had fulfilled the promise he made at a similar address in 2015, to fix the power crisis (Dumsor) which plagued the nation, collapsing businesses and rendering many jobless.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZUPdAd8efckzz5x9kFzVufmydmZNsC5v”]But the National Democratic Party (NDP), a breakaway from the governing NDC, says the President traveled the path of propaganda, portraying a picture that is far from the true state of the nation.

The Eastern Regional Secretary for the NDP, Gideon Amoefi Ampa, told Citi News the President in his presentation, just touted his achievements to appease the nation rather than addressing key challenges.

“…I was expecting the President to address the issue of hardship where people cannot afford to take three square meals a day…Those at the Northern side have not received their subvention; 3 cedis , 30 pesewas for sometime now; how are we going to address this issue?”

“Day in and day out , you hear someone has been stabbed to death, serial killing and all that; and so we are asking the President ; what is he doing about these problems?..When you look at the State of the Nation that the President delivered, it was woeful and abysmal…”

The NDP, led by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, is the second party to have discredited the President’s address, after the  opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NPP’s acting Chairman, Freddie Blay, described the presentation as disappointing.
