The Ministry of Youth and Sports has received a donation of GHS 100,000 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to help with its preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The presentation took place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Monday and several of Ghana’s World Cup Ambassadors including former Stars captain C.K. Akunnor and singer Becca were in attendance.

The Ministry had been calling on corporate bodies in the country to help with funds that could give Ghana the opportunity to send fans to Brazil to cheer the Black Stars because of the financial constraints on the part of government.

In that regard, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah was highly appreciative of Stanbic’s gesture.

” I am very delighted to receive the delegation from Stambic Bank.

We are preparing for Brazil at the moment and we know that he Government has done its bit in terms of the on-field preparation but because of the current economic challenges, money cannot be taken from the consolidated fund to ferry supporters to Brazil”, said the Minister in his speech to the press.

He continued: ” Stanbic’s intervention is timely because it will support us take a core group of fans to Brazil. We called out to a lot of the corporate bodies and we are happy that Stambic answered that call.”

Stambic Bank, on their part, expressed their pleasure at being part of the efforts to make fans in Ghana fully enjoy the passion of the 2014 World Cup.

” We know that the Ghanaian and the African in general, loves sports very well.

The boxing fans will quickly recount the recent Banku-Powers fight while football fans like those who support Hearts of Oak will remember the 4-0 win over Asante Kotoko.

In barely a month, all of Ghana will stand in expectation as the Black Stars takes on the rest of the world and we are happy to support Ghana.”

The Minister also revealed that the Black Stars would meet the President, John Dramani Mahama, on Thursday 23rd May, 2014 at a farewell dinner at the State House and he urged fans to come and contribute some money to nation’s campaign in Brazil.

The dinner would afford the President to chance to meet and motivate the players for the final time after their non-residential camping in Accra that would end later this week.
