Government is expected to convene an emergency meeting with management of the Ghana COCOBOD following the closure of two processing plants of the Cocoa Processing Company in Tema.

About 80 workers of the cocoa processing plant have been asked by management to stay out of work to allow maintenance works to be carried out on the processing plants.

[contextly_sidebar id=”kBcOXABRxLTCJE8kHbtgujMFUkX8nyXW”]Some individuals have discounted the claims saying the decision has been largely influenced by a shortfall in the supply of cocoa beans.

But the management of the Cocoa Processing Company as well as the Trade Ministry have denied such claims.

Answering questions on the floor of Parliament yesterday, Finance Minister, and Seth Tekper disclosed that government will be meeting the management to address the issue facing the Cocoa Processing Company.

“I have invited the Chief Executive of COCOBOD which owns 30 percent, the partial information that I would give to the House is that COCOBOD, together with government, are calling for an emergency meeting following discussions that have been held already with management for them to report more elaborately.” Seth Tekper stated.
