The Deputy Director of Programmes at the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Vidhya Ganesh has commended Ghana for great strides it made in the implementation of several social protection programs.
These social intervention programs are ultimately helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Commenting during Ghana’s Side Event at the ongoing United Nations 54th Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Vidhya Ganesh said the rate of development and improvement of the program was “phenomenal.”
The side event which was chaired by Ghana’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Martha Pobee was on the theme “Achieving SDG 1: Reviewing Processes towards building a resilient and efficient Social Protection System in Ghana.”
Her Excellency Ganesh also expressed satisfaction at the government’s commitment to find the social interventions.
She therefore urged that this continues irrespective of which political party is in power.
She however challenged the Ministry to look beyond the initial milestone of success and work towards sustaining the various social protection programmes.
