The Police on Saturday arrested Esther Enyonam Pekyi, the 26-year-old lady who allegedly poured volumes of acid on her boyfriend, a third year student of GIMPA  last year.

This was after Citi News provided the Police with intelligence leading to her arrest.

Esther Enyonam Pekyi disappeared after she allegedly poured acid on her boyfriend, Eric Ohemeng in June 2015 for ending their relationship.

Citi FM broke the story to the public last year.

Citi News investigates

Ever since the news broke, Citi News has been following up on the whereabouts of the suspect after the Madina Divisional Police Command failed to pursue her despite several tip offs

Citi News together with some friends of the victim and the Police spent several months looking for the suspect who was rumuored to be hiding in Togo, and at some point at Aflao in the Volta Region and later, Kasoa in the Central Region.

Her arrest followed days of planning and collaboration between Citi News and a team of Police detectives at the Accra regional Police Command who were sanctioned by the Regional Commander to make the operation a priority

A meeting was earlier arranged between the suspect and victim at Dansoman whereupon the police moved in.

Citi News in the company of a team of undercover detectives, identified the suspect and arrested her when she got down from a taxi to meet her ex lover.

Visibly shocked after arrest

Esther Enyonam Pekyi was visibly shocked after her arrest and looked on helplessly as the team of undercover agents whisked her away.

She is currently in the custody of the Accra Regional Police Command pending further investigations. Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, COP George Akuffo Dampare, will address the media on the arrest on Monday.

He is also expected to use the opportunity to outline his programme to tackle the unlawful sale of acid on the market.
