Some students of Ho Polytechnic in the Volta Region, have been deployed to the Ketu North District to embark on a 2-week voluntary teaching in selected basic schools.

The students, mostly members of the Ketu North Students Union (KENSU) have for the past years been engaging with pupils in the district through voluntary teaching, mentoring and career coaching to improve academic performance.

The selected schools have been identified as low performing schools in the district as most of them recorded 0% in the past Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). They include Gbegbekorpe JHS, Adzorti JHS, Avekordome JHS and Ative JHS.

With supports from the District Chief Executive, Kofi Lawson, the students under the auspices of the District Education Directorate would be housed at the various communities to easily reach out to the pupils and their parents.

In an interview with Citi News, the leader of the delegation and President of the Association, Master Peter Amanyo said,“Academic performance of most schools in the Ketu North District just as some other parts of the country, is poor and as a student union, we directly want to be part of the solution since our core mandate is to champion positive behavioral change towards learning among students and to improve on the standards of education in the district.”

He however called on other stakeholders to support the annual project.
