A defeated presidential aspirant of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah, says she is ready to serve in any capacity to ensure that the CPP wins power in the November general elections.

Samia, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Jomoro told Citi News that she is also considering moves to contest the seat again.

She lost the seat to the NDC after just one-term in 2008.

[contextly_sidebar id=”YXUg8Ak5QDjDLYuiUR7BM0Uo95Qa7CdQ”]“We have decided to put what happened at the congress behind us and focus on the CPP’s 2016 election campaign. Many of us are willing to serve in whatever capacity, I personally I am looking at going back to contest the Jomoro seat,” she added.

Samia’s presidential ambition was cut short after a former General Secretary of the CPP, Ivor Greenstreet won majority votes at the party’s congress to become the flagbearer.

Ivor Greenstreet polled 64.7% of the total votes cast to emerge the presidential candidate while Samia had 29% of the votes.

Samia Nkrumah after her defeat accused Ivor Greenstreet of indulging in vote-buying; a claim that was rejected by second Vice Chairman of the party, Susan Adu Amankwah.

Adu Amankwah argued that Samia made the claim out of pain because she hounded the party’s former flagbearer to leave the CPP with the hope of taking his place.

But speaking to Citi News, Samia rejected the allegations saying she had instead been hounded by some party members.

“Others chose to leave party…we believe that the party must remain united…after all, I was just the chairperson when Abu Sakara left the party so why should it be my fault.? Let us separate speculations from fact and suspense from evidence from just mere rumors.”

“The fact of the matter is that, I have served the party as an MP and later as a chairperson, I have tried to maintain the independence of the party. My parliamentary records show that I have been independent of the NDC and NPP, which has not gone down well with certain people, so I have been hounded in different ways but I’m strong, sincere and I want to serve my country. And God has given me the strength and wisdom to overcome such things,” she added.
