Newly elected Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, says he is emboldened by his overwhelming victory in Saturday’s congress, to unseat the dominance of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Greenstreet, an immediate past General Secretary of the party who had not been favoured by pundits, emerged victorious with 1,288 votes representing 64.2%.

Samia, who appeared highly confident of her chances and desire to lead the party her father founded, managed only 579 votes representing about 28.9% of the total votes cast.

In his first Facebook post after a shocking victory that saw him beat the daughter of the party’s founder and Ghana’s first President, Mr. Greenstreet assured his party of victory in the 2016 elections.

“I wish to thank all the rank and file, the National Chairman (Prof. Edmund Delle) and his able executives for a successful National Delegates Congress. For giving me this mandate, I assure the party of victory in this year’s election. I count on every one to be part of the work ahead. As I said, Unity will be pivotal in our campaign and I am emboldened to unseat the NDC and the NPP. God bless you. Forward Ever Backwards Never!!!

Mr. Greenstreet, whose Facebook page as a politician had very few followers, is now gathering momentum.

Checks on his page indicated that his previous posts before his election had very insignificant likes, comments and shares.

However, the first post on Sunday evening after his victory on Saturday started seeing a steady rise in the number of comments and likes.

The two main parties  have in separate statements congratulated and welcome Mr. Greenstreet into the political arena.

The NPP during the CPP’s congress, requested an alliance  but the party Prof. Chairman Edmund Delle rejected the offer explaining the party will now stand on its own although it will open up to groups with Nkrumaist orientation.

The man Ivor Greenstreet

Although Mr. Ivor Greenstreet appears to be a sober person assisted to move around quietly in his wheelchair, he is viewed as an honest and courageous individual with a genuine desire and passion for Ghana’s transformation.

In December 2014, Mr. Greenstreet won the hearts of many Ghanaians when he boldly and publicly chastised President Mahama and members of his entire National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

Mr. Greenstreet, who had mounted a dais to deliver the traditional solidarity message at the NDC’s congress at the Babayara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new executives, took time to remind the President of his failed promises, the hardships in the country and the need for him to be mindful of the challenges and turn things around.

The NDC, led by President Mahama castigated and heckled him for his comments, but many Ghanaians equally commended his boldness and honesty.
