The Ghana Education Service says it cannot be blamed for the supply of error ridden text books to Junior High Schools across the country.
A Junior High School teacher, Phanuel Yaw Ayawli, petitioned the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) in December 2015 to withdraw the ‘error-ridden’ New Integrated Science Textbooks for Junior High Schools.
[contextly_sidebar id=”fbLYO9zAkTuemuKdRl00LTF4mIHj3emx”]Speaking to Citi News, the Director for Basic Education at Ghana Education Service, Stephen Adu said the GES did not have the opportunity to read through the books before it was printed hence it cannot be held responsible for the development.
“… It was donor partners who sponsored the printing, they gave it to their own printers so we did not see the book until they came into the system.”
The error ridden textbooks were sponsored by UK AID and printed in India by SEDCO publications.
In an earlier interview with Citi News, the Deputy Minister in charge of pre-tertiary education, Alex Kyeremeh indicated that a directive had been issued for the withdrawal of the books but a number of Regional Directors of Educations, however, say they had yet not received such a directive.
Meanwhile, attempts to get Sedco publishing house (the publishers of the books) to respond to the issues have proved futile.
