A total of 297 inmates of the Tamale Central Prisons will henceforth benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is generously registering both convicts and those on remand as part of its social interventions.

By extension, the ministry fete 500 aged at the Tamale Jubilee Park and registered them under the NHIS.
The sector Minister, Mrs. Oye Lithur supervised the two activities and said it was in line with government’s pro-poor policy.
She reiterated government’s commitment to improve the livelihood of the destitute in society.
Mrs. Oye Lithur hinted her ministry’s forward march to replicate the interventions across the country.
The Northern Regional Prisons Commander, Deputy Director of Prisons, Robert Abundant Awulugutu complained about overcrowding.
He emphasized the need for decongestion alongside a major rehabilitation to improve the ambiance there.
