President John Mahama has ordered the Bureau of National Investigations to confiscate properties of DKM Microfinance as government rolls out plans to pay customers whose investments have been locked up.
This comes days after the Bank of Ghana hinted it would liquidate the assets of DKM if it fails to pay customers their monies.
[contextly_sidebar id=”EVIVLly2laSu1EtDjfSbTaD3r2GagCjL”]Attempts by customers of DKM and some other Microfinance companies to get their investments have been unsuccessful for almost a year.
However addressing journalists on Tuesday January, 12th, 2016 the President said government will work in the best interest of the customers.
“I’ve asked the BNI to look for and identify all their properties and let’s put a lien on those properties so that even if we sell their properties, we can still refund monies to those who lost it…but then we are going to prosecute them for fraud, they are currently in BNI custody, we will go back to court and those who have cheated the people will pay for what they have done,” the President stated.
The President, who expressed shock at how some professionals fell victim to the development however cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of organizations that promised over-ambitious interests on investments.
“When I saw the categories of people who had fallen prey to this I was shocked, the intellectuals among others,
“If anybody is offering you higher than the Treasury bill rates, profits free please take a step back and look at it, he advised.
Meanwhile a forum involving opinion leaders and the affected customers is expected to be held in Sunyani tomorrow, to apprise them on the latest development.
