The administration block of the Tuobodom Senior High School in the Techiman North District was gutted by fire on Sunday morning resulting in extensive damage of the building and documents in it.

The fire is said to have started around 6:40 am at the headmaster’s office and spread to other offices on the block.

According to Assistant District Officer Grade 1 (ADO 1) Confidence Anokye, the second in Command of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Techiman North district, they received a distress call from the school around 7am after which they quickly went to the place to help combat the fire.

He said upon arriving at they scene the realized that because of the harmattan season, the fire had spread to most of the offices on the block including the school’s library.

ADO 1 Confidence Anokye said though the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, he attributed it to the old electrical wires on the building which could not manage the alternate power pressure that passed  through it.

He noted that “all documents and books in the various offices were destroyed” in the process.9676ff45-5261-4c31-92e9-d00caee1404a

This latest fire incident adds up to the growing list of fire outbreaks that have been recorded in the country within the harmattan season.

Early last week, the Kumasi central market was engulfed by fire which razed hundreds of items running into thousands of cedis.

Fire also destroyed several shops in Nkawkaw Adoagyiri, capital of the Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglatey, has bemoaned the rampant fire cases recorded over the past few weeks.

He also noted that measures have been put in place to reduce the fire incidents and those who deliberately set fire  in dry areas will face punished.
