Speaking at the inaugural ceremony in Ho, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Gyan-Apenteng said the committees would be established across the country to help NMC discharge its duties effectively by clarifying the responsibilities of media organizations and monitoring their activities in the country.

He added that the committee would not only help expand the oversight responsibilities of the commission particularly in the regions but also help in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the build up to the general elections.

“The committees are being set up at an important time in Ghana’s history. The 2016 elections, which hopefully would confirm to the world that Ghana’s democracy has matured and is capable of producing our desired outcome of free and fair elections in an atmosphere of peace and calm.” he said.

The establishment of the Regional Media Advisory Committee is a collaboration between the National Media Commission and the Media and Governance Institute (MaGI) with supports from the European Union (EU).

The Volta Region is the second after the Ashanti Region to benefit from this initiative.
