The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has added his voice to the global condemnation of the abduction of the over 200 Nigerian girls by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Nana Addo in a series of tweets said, ‘’the abduction of at least 276 innocent Nigerian school girls is a great tragedy and an outrage.’’

Nana Addo who himself has five daughters condemned the act of Boko haram. ‘’I have five daughters and can imagine the anguish their parents are going through,’’ he tweeted.

He expressed empathy to the families of the girls, Nigerian people and the Nigerian government.

He went on to appeal to Islamic leaders across the world to ‘’put pressure on Boko Haram’’ to release the innocent girls.

‘’Let Islamic authorities, the world over, put pressure on Boko Haram to release these girls; this is not the way to go,’’ Nana tweeted.

According to him everything must be done to ensure the safe return of the girls to carry on with their lives and education.

The former Ghanaian legislature further said, ‘’it will be good to see the #AU and #ECOWAS exerting pressure to ensure a speedy resolution.’’

He however, noted that it was a delight to see the World has woken up to its responsibilities in this matter [kidnapping of the school girls].

The abduction of the girls in Nigeria has led to some protests across Nigeria and other countries.

Some persons have also accused the Nigerian government’s slow response to the incident. Nigeria is currently receiving support from the international community to find and rescue the young girls.

Solidarity for the girls has been global and the actions of Boko Haram continue to be condemned globally.
