Four suspects standing trial for their involvement in the  murder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) loyalist in the Asawase constituency, Abubakar Sadiq, have been granted police inquiry bail.

The four, including the party’s Women’s Organizer in the constituency, were granted bail on the advice of the Attorney General after the case docket was forwarded to her.

Abubakar Sadiq, was stabbed to death in November for allegedly threatening to beat up the constituency chairman who is reported to have made some unpleasant comments about the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo.

Sadiq’s death is believed to be in connection with his alleged threats to beat up the constituency chairman.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the constituency, Muntaka Mubarak, warned that there could be reprisal attacks if those who killed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) member are not dealt with.

No reprisal attacks

NPP’s flagbearer for the 2016 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo cautioned members of the party in the Asawase constituency against staging any reprisal attacks, as it would contradict the party’s democratic credentials.

He urged them to rather see Sadiq’s death as a “sacrifice” which should spur the NPP to resolving its issues and reclaiming power in 2016.

“I take this opportunity to plead with all NPP members that we do not want any further bloodshed in the party. Let’s all understand that Abubakar Sadiq’s death is a sacrifice for all to end violence in the party,” Nana Addo said.

“Nobody should think about retaliating the death that has occurred. That will not help us. Bloodshed and violence are not part of the democratic dispensation which the NPP has been instrumental in instituting in Ghana,” he added.
