Walewale-Gambaga road to be completed before 2016 elections – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Mamprugu land that construction of the Walewale-Gambaga road in the Northern Region will be accomplished ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The Walewale-Gambaga, Yendi-Gushiegu and the eastern corridor are among road projects under construction in the Northern Region.

According to President Mahama, the Walewale-Gambaga road will be inaugurated ahead of the 2016 polls.

He was speaking on the occasion of the 2015 Damba festival celebrated in Mamprugu land on the theme, “Building the kingdom of Mamprugu together with peace and unity.”

He assured the chiefs and people of Mamprugu land that government was committed to expand infrastructural development in the area.

President Mahama also pledged government’s determination to improve water delivery systems in Mamprugu land.

Overlord of Mamprugu traditional area who doubles as President of the Northern Regional House of chiefs, the Nayiri Naa Bahigu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga in his welcome address catalogued numerous infrastructural deficits recorded in the area and asked government to fix them.

“The Nalerigu-Gbintiri, Binde-Bunkprugu, Wulugu-Kpasenkpe, Kpasenkpe-Yagaba and the Nalerigu-Gambaga roads deserve attention.”

He nonetheless thanked government for fulfilling some of its 2012 campaign promises made to the people of Mamprugu land.

He decried the low representation of government appointees from Mamprugu land.

“I wish to state that the number of political appointees from Mamprugu area in your government is on the low side and I will want to use this opportunity to appeal to you ton increase our representation in your government if possible.”

The Nayiri bemoaned the falling standard of education in Mamprugu land and called for concerted efforts to overturn the situation.
