Students of Ekorso DA Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in the Eastern Region say they are living in constant fear after they discovered cracks in their school building.

The school, which was built over four decades ago, has not seen any renovation.

The school’s Junior High School Block which is a mud structure, has no doors and windows, with the old roofing sheets also ripping off.

The situation interrupts classes as school authorities are compelled to bring classes to a close whenever it rains.

Inside the classrooms, are deep cracks on the walls and deep holes on the floors.

There are no teaching and learning materials at the school. Ekorso D/A Primary and JHS also have no staff common room.   Teachers sit under trees close to the school building to mark scripts.

Meanwhile, Solidaridad, an international non-governmental organization that supports the sustainable development of farmers and production systems in West Africa, through the enhancement of value chains of fresh and processed agricultural commodities and other non-agricultural commodities, has rolled out programmes to help address the vital needs of the Ekorso community.

As part of the programme, Solidaridad will work in partnership with public and private stakeholders to promote agricultural practices, ecosystem restoration and build and renovate schools in the area.
